Cesta do Gruzie a Irma Qaadze.
During my visit to Georgia I've met a charming person - a little, tiny lady with big Georgian eyes and an even bigger talent whose heart fell in love with dolls. She is a famous well known artist in Georgia - the puppeteer and doll maker Irma Qaadze.
Already a visit of her abode - her studio, was surprising from the very beginning... At first it's necessary to find the right entrance to the right backyard in the maze of narrow streets and the ruins of houses of the former imperial glory. And then up and up, several floors on the outdoor, beautifully wrought staircase that may look romantic thanks to the continuous swinging, but is difficult to surmount. It's unbelievable that this elderly woman climbs it daily. A reward for the sense of danger and adventure awaits on the very top: the charming view over the rooftops of the old town, the old Tbilisi with the dominant of one of the oldest Christian churches in horizon and far away green mountains ... What a beauty!
On the porch in the immediate neighbourhood is what appears at first glance to be a chaotic jumble of paper, paint, adhesives, old postcards, clay, brushes, and God knows what else. Amongst all of this here and there charming faces of various sizes and with different expressions peep out. Some of them have their own body. Others conversely live their life just on a thread, waiting for their fate which arises in the hands of the artist whose works are so prized that they can for example be seen in the Georgian National Museum. And that's very good, because many of the artist's works end up in private collections of real experts. No surprise, it's hard to resist! Anyone who enters the workshop at the end of the gallery is fascinated and falls in love. Qaadze Irma lives her life there, sharing with her kitten a fragile world of laminated puppets, dolls and figures, which have an essence of Georgian life reflected in the world of fairy tales a little bit reminescent of One Thousand and One Nights ...
Each squared centimeter is a jewel, a work of art and a bit of the Georgian artist's soul. It is not possible to resist ... One of her puppets - a dancer who can play her whole body, dance belly dances all the while charming you with her deep look - decided to go with me to our country. And now it slowly spreads its magic here throughout our gallery. Isn't she beautiful?
